I brought my car in a couple of weeks ago to get an oil changed and my A/C fixed. When I brought the car in the check engine light was not on. After having my car for 4 days and fixing the A/C (which works great and I am very thankful for) they informed me that the check engine light was on and had been on the whole time. I told them it wasn’t on before and they insisted it was. They were willing to diagnose the problem for an additional $80. I took my car home and did some research on the error code with the help from a mechanic friend. We came to the conclusion that something got unplugged while they were working on my A/C. Which is totally reasonable. I called them back and relayed this information. They said this wasn’t possible and they were sure that the check engine light was on before I brought my car in. They were happy to look at it though, for $80. I had my brother call in but he got the same answer (at least they’re consistent). I decided to take it to a different mechanic. They looked at my car for less than 30 minutes and determined that all that was wrong, was that a circuit had been unplugged and hadn’t been plugged in. This mechanic charged $60, which I feel is a fair price for them. But it is $60 that I shouldn’t have had to pay, because a plug was accidentally not plugged in and Honest-1 wouldn’t even consider that they were at fault.
Emily, After reviewing the situation, we are very sorry we did not meet your expectations. As a standard procedure, when technicians first enter a customers vehicle it is typical to inspect the service engine light and note the status of any indicators. On the notes for your vehicle the technician noted that the "check engine" light was on. This does not mean we don't make mistakes, it happens. Our diagnosis fee is 79.99 and we do inform customers up front, incase the problem isn't related to original work order, if the issue was found to be related to work we preformed, we do not charge a diagnosis fee. It is a little unclear which "circuit" was unplugged, however we think that this situation could, and should, have been resolved at no charge and we would like to make this right with you. Please contact the Shop and ask for Kris. She will be able to give you some options on how we can make this right. We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.
